We made our own

Very Hungry Caterpillar Book!

We used our Caterpillar from last week

to make the book come alive.

I used construction paper and

wrote the words from Eric Carle classic.

I drew pictures to match.

I got this idea from my Mother-in law

Who also teaches Kindergarten.

I never had enough guts to try it out with 25 six year olds!

Then Miss S. illustrated the book.

We use markers, dot markers, glitter and paint. 

I cut a hole in each page so she could

string the caterpillar through each page.

It was fun listening to her read the book

As she pulled the caterpillar through each hole.



I might regret the glitter later,

but that stuff makes everything look better!

Maybe I'll put it on my face the next time I feel a little drab.

 

Eric Carle Butterflies

The Caterpillar Turned into a Beautiful Butterfly

We painted butterflies in the Eric Carle style.

(A.K.A. we painted randomly and cut out the prettiest parts.)

I used a butterfly shaped cookie cutter and traced on the most beautiful spots.

We also painted clouds like Eric Carle.

We used shaving cream on blue paper.

It started out as pink, but as she painted with it, it turned white.

We let it dry and glued on the butterflies.

She loves using glue sticks.

Lastly, she added little antenna to complete it.

To kick off our Butterfly Week

We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar

A Classic!

I have read this book many a time to Miss S.

She loves it!

So we decided to take it one step further.

We decided to make a puppet to go along with the book.

We cut up a egg carton.

And we painted it.

Instead of using a paintbrush,

We used a cut up sponge and clothes pin.

It was fun to use something different to paint with

We kinda like doing that.

I extended the activity by pulling out my stencils,

so she paint with those too.

We also sang the song "Butterfly"

It goes through the life cycle of a butterfly,

Using to tune of up on the house top. (So it's catchy.)

For our Butterfly theme we leared a lot about Eric Carle. First we made Our Own Eric Carle Butterflies, we also made A Very Hungary Caterpillar book, and lastly we made a butterfly box to fly around in,
