Spinning plates

Sometimes I feel like motherhood is a circus, ;)

And I am in the spinning plate act.
Each one of my children and my tasks is a plate spinning on a stick.
When I remember this my day goes much smoother.

So for example, today I was feeding my baby
And my five-year-old, Miss Sweetie had cut her toe while playing outside, and blood was running everywhere.

I had to put my baby down and take care of her toe.
I thought I was supposed to be 'spinning the plate' and taking care of my baby but instead I had to set him down and take care of her.
It was funny though because my baby didn't even fuss as I took care of her even though he was hungry.
It was like he knew it was her turn to be taking care of, and he could wait.

It doesn't always work like that though sometimes I feel like all the plates are going to come crashing down around me.
That's when I feel like I have to give each plate a tiny spin, and give each person who needs me a little bit of attention.

I've decided it's much easier running around working as hard as possible trying to keep all my plates spinning,
then it is to forget and let a plate come crashing down and try to glue it back together.
Sometimes motherhood sure is tiring!

  1. HI/ You don't know me, I am sister-in-law to Bethany who lives in your ward or neighborhood. She recommended your site and I've been following your activities with your kids and such. I've recently had my 3rd baby as well. Anyway, I really loved your reccommendation on the book and creating a life plan. I have thought so much about it since you posted this and am in the process of creating my own now. Thank you for your inspiration and for sharing your plan. I don't think I would have been as interested if I hadn't heard what a beautiful ideal you have. Thanks again for sharing. I'd love to hear how it is going recently! Also, I love the spinning plate analogy. I have a potty traingin 2 year old and a nursing baby and have had many similar experiences and feelings as youve expressed on here. It's nice to know we are not alone!
