Weather Mobile

To finish up our Weather Unit,
We made a little Weather Mobile.
I was planning on making this ever since we started our unit.
We loved learning about the weather,
and now we can use it in our preschool classroom.

To start I modge-podged some remnant fabric onto this foam ring
I had from the fabric store.

To hang it I used a 3M hook and some Raffia to keep it up.

It was such a fun way to celebrate the end of our unit.

Now, we can have the preschoolers point to what
The weather is like each day.
Useful and pretty!

Here are links to all the things we did during this weather unit:

Weather Unit: Let's Go Fly A Kite

We learned about wind by flying kites and making kites.

We had a blast flying kites!
The wind was crazy!

Lucky me, because Mr. Handsome is great with kids!

Miss Sweetie Pie was getting a tad bored,
but when he flew the kite low and she could catch it,
and help throw it back in the air,
she LOVED it!

Then we went home and made some kites.
First, I hot glued some Popsicle sticks together.

Then she picked out the fabric she wanted to use,
and decorated it.

Baby H. was having a ball as well.
Right here he is singing.

I also let her decorate it with glitter glue and fabric paint.
Which got on her brand new dress :(
But I ripped it off of her and ran it in the bath faucet under HOT water, it seems to have come out fine. (few!)

Making kites made me think about shapes,
so I had her sort shapes,
showing her that a rhombus and a parallelogram look like kites.

I also let her play with my pattern block stamps.

I made a quick picture first so she could get the idea.
Mine is on the right.
She had a BLAST with these!
Her imagination just took off.
It was so much better giving her an example,
If I would have just told her what to do,
she would have used them for 2 minutes and not had very much fun.

There are two Rapunzels each holding a kite,
next to them is a tower.
Hers turned out WAY better than mine!

This are our old posts that we did about the wind:

Sid the Science Kid Wind Experiments

How does the wind work?
After watching Sid the Science Kid
We decided to the wind experiments in our bathroom.
We used  a straw to make waves.
This would have been really fun to do with a bike pump!

Then we blew our toy boats, just like the wind blows real boats.
This was baby H's favorite Learning Time to date!
I love the chubby hand splashing!

We blew soap to make sand dunes.
We should have used sand, but we didn't have any.
The soap was a BAD idea, it got in the straw and in our lungs. :(

We also went outside and did Straw Art
We watered down tempra paint and used a straw to blow the colors around.

It looks a little like squished bugs,
Just don't think about it.
We used a dropper to put dropplets onto the paper.
And used the straw to move the paint around.
(Yes the dropper has a crazy shape, dishwasher accident!)

I'm Just Dust in the Wind

Today we made a wind sock

We painted it-- yesterday
And decorated it today (with the help of baby H)

We punched holes in, put pom poms on it, (for flare)
And tied ribbons to the bottom.

Then we took it outside and went crazy with it!
We tied it to a tree, where it is going to spend the night.

The Wind is Blowing!

Today we discovered the wind.
I didn't know it would be so much FUN!
Our Original Plan was to go on a nature walk outside
But when we saw the Hail we compromised and learned about wind inside.

First we felt the wind
Next we put tissue paper on the fan
All the while I was asking her questions like,
What do you think will happen?
What color is the wind?
And we watched it fly
Then we ripped the tissue paper off and let the wind carry it.
This was the BEST part!
Next we tried other things,
Like a plastic bag, the head band, and our hair.

Lastly, we read this book!
We will probably read it all week.
