Community Helper Felt Board and Wrap-up

Whoops Sorry!!
We went on vacation, and so did my blog :)
But tomorrow I'm really excited to show you the tricks we used on our road trip, and they worked!

In the mean time, here are the final things we did for Community Helpers, and some other great ideas, I can't wait to try next time.

During Preschool, we matched the vehicle to the Community Helper.

Aren't these so cute! They are found here.

We used a flannel board,

and I attached the pictures using Velcro,

but you could also glue on flannel on the back as well.
It's kind of an old school method of teaching,
but it's different and captures their attention.

I love this cute idea from Homeschool Creations!

They created a doctor bag page and learned about the letter Dd.

I adore this idea from New Hope International School

They learned about a different Community Helper each day,

and for Dentists they painted a tooth with a paint brush!

This idea from Living Life Intentionally boggles my mind:

She introduced a social studies unit starting with home, and then family and then community.

They went on field trips for each one,

and drew lots of pictures.

Princess Week Wrap-up

We had a fun time having princess fun during princess week!

To finish up the week,

we headed over to the library for their Princesses and Pirates day.

It was so fun!

Everyone was invited to dress up,

so you better believe we did!

This time she had her children decorating princess dresses made out of play dough.

I can't even stand how much fun this looks.

The next rainy day we are totally doing this!

I thought this idea from the Tutuzone was a fun one.

They used a sucker to create a fairy princess.

What a fun idea, we have all made ghosts out of suckers,

But a fairy princess would be so much more fun!

This idea is from Come Together Kids

She came up with this fun idea and created it before they went to see the movie Mirror Mirror.



The idea is that kids look at their reflection and see the crown upon their head.

This would also be a great way to talk about self worth.

Easter Ideas Weekly Wrap-up

I love Easter time!
It is a very reflective time,
and also a wonderful time to spend time with family and friends.
I love all of the fun things to do with children around this time.

Here are some of my favorite ideas
to do with your children around Easter time.
If I would have had more time,
I would have done each and every one of these activities.

When I read this idea, I was ticked pink!
Together as a family they made these cute chocolate nests.

I fell in love with this blog the moment I read it's name.
She used Easter Eggs to do letter matching,
and counting.

I can't wait to make these for my Easter Quiet Time Box!

She is a great homeschooling mom,
who always keeps the right perspective.
Here she did a modified Easter Egg Hunt using candy that she could tie to Bible verses of Christ.

Five Senses Weekly Round-Up

The Five Sense is such a fun theme!

The possibilities are really endless.

So here are some other great Five Senses Ideas that I LOVE!

This is from a Greek Blogger named Maro. 

(If you can't read it click on the "translate" button at the top of the page.)

She explored the sense of sight, and touch on this post. She named this little character Ms. Touch.  Wouldn't this be fun to gather random materials to make into a Ms. Touch?

She also had some really cute posts on taste, hearing, and another sense of touch post here.

This one is from Just Deanna who made some simple eye-spy bags!  This would also go great with a transportation theme. Easy simple and cute.

This idea comes from One Inch World, she has an amazing blog and she does all sorts of art and sensory activities with her children.

In this activity she got out a bunch of her old spices, she watered down some glue, and let her children paint with the glue.  Doesn't that sound divine?

Although it's not a blog I love love love anything from FamilyFun Magazine.  They posted this idea on-line. You use fuzzy yarn and sandpaper to create.  Wouldn't this be a great way to practice letter or number making, or even a substitute for a geoboard?

Snow Week Wrap-Up

I love Wintertime activities!

{Especially if it means getting me out of the house!}

It seems like during the winter I have to try extra hard to not get cabin fever! Being busy makes me happy!

So during the winter we visit lots of museums,

go to different libraries, visit pet's mart, or try anything new!

Which includes fun activities at home as well!

We have had a ton of fun playing in the snow,

But it's time to move on and learn something new.

So here is a list of the other activities I would do,

if I had more time...

She made macaroni snowflakes!

So cute! And such a fun idea to do with kids.

Next year, when M. is a little more coordinated,

we'll do this and read Snowflake Bentley.

I would also love to pair that activity to this one by StrongStart

She made these by photocopying pictures of snowflakes onto transparencies.  Then the kids examined them.

Genius!!

My last favorite idea is from delia creates.

She made borax snowflakes.

How amazing is this?!

She shares a recipe here.

Wouldn't this be a wonderful way to enrich your child's knowledge?

Dinosaur Week Wrap-up

We had such a great dinosaur week!

I follow some amazing people on Google Reader.

And they have SO many great dinosaur ideas.

The first is from Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas.

She did a whole dinosaur theme.

She bought some "dinosaur skulls" and froze them.

Her girls had a great time digging them out.

Check out her whole unit including some math and literacy ideas.

The next is from I Can Teach My Child

(Don't you love that name!)

She had her kids make painted footprints and a dino print,

And then she had them order them from largest to smallest.

The next idea is from Mama Dani's Musings,

She does Muffin Tin Mondays,

And for her Dinosaur week, 

She made tuna fish dinosaurs, fruit rocks, celery trees, 

and adorable dinosaur print cookies.

Reptile Watching and Weekly Wrap-up

After we learned how reptiles are cold blooded,

they have leathery skin, and they hatch from an egg,

We went to the zoo to check them out.

We go to the zoo often,

So it's been fun to learn about different types of animals.

Now every time we go, we focus on one area.

We also brought Miss Sassy's Great-Grandma.

She pointed out so many fun and different things as well!

It was so fun to notice all of the heat lamps,

and how the reptiles moved.

We spent ages looking at the lizards, snakes, and turtles.

In fact, it was the only thing she even cared about.

It was a fun trip and a great way to make a memory.

I love this idea, it is essentially a sensory box that can be put back into a shoebox.
Fun, imaginative, not messy!

She did a whole Alligator learning theme.

Nitrogen Ice Cream and Weekly Wrap-Up

We headed over to Sub-Zero Ice Cream Tonight,

Where they make ice cream with nitrogen.

They started with cream and flavors,

(Just like we did yesterday.)

Then they blasted it with cloud of nitrogen.

It was so cool to watch!

And fun to eat.

I think we've had our fill of ice cream for the week!
